Communicating
with God, not just to Him.
True
communication is a close, personal exchange - a dialogue. As with
any other relationship, it implies listening, hearing, receiving.
Most of us are good at communicating to God, but learning
to listen, hear and receive is a skill that must be developed.
Hearing and receiving from God makes it possible for us (including
CrossLand's leadership)to become decision-discerners instead
of just decision-makers. At CrossLand, we offer
practical ways of learning to communicate with God and
not just to Him so that a personal relationship with a
perfect, loving, heavenly Father can be experienced.
Learning
to think "Christianly" in our everyday lives and decisions.
As
we face life's pressures, the influence of the world is subtle
but powerful in its effect on our thinking. God tells us that
His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways
(Isaiah 55:8). Solid teaching from the Word of God gives us the
foundation for knowing and understanding God's thoughts and ways.
Learning to communicate with God results in gaining His perspective
on our real-life issues. In addition, the close relationships
formed in our small groups, called CrossTies,
offer a safe and intimate atmosphere for helping each other in
our daily choices as we seek to gain the mind of Christ.
Equipping
the CrossLand family with knowledge, skills and resources needed
in the Christian walk.
We
desire that each person have an intimate relationship with God,
and we understand that basic knowledge, study skills and accessing
resources help nurture that relationship. We want to give everyone
an opportunity to grow in their maturity as a Christian through
one-on-one discipleship, as well as through informal classes on
subjects such as how to study the Bible, how to teach the Bible,
how to communicate with God, and find your purpose.
Assisting
each other in developing an intrinsic love for God - loving Him
with an increasingly pure motive.
If
we are honest, every one of us has loved God at one time or another
for what He could do for us, rather than for Who He is. At CrossLand,
worship is strongly valued. We want to love God and learn how
to worship Him as a response to Who He is, giving Him all the
praise and glory that He deserves. While it is impossible for
us to have a totally pure motive, we want to encourage each other
to keep moving toward a love for God based simply on Who He is,
rather than what He does.
Releasing
one another to pursue the vision and ministry God has prepared
uniquely for us.
We
believe that every Christian is created uniquely with an ability
and an opportunity to serve the body of Christ in a way which
will both minister to others and be personally fulfilling. We
offer teaching, mentoring and resources for discovering both a
person's vision- what God has placed in your heart, and
ministry - how He wants you to accomplish it. Of course,
none of this would be significant without ministry opportunity.
It is our desire not only to find the vision and ministry, but
to come alongside and release people to actually do what
God has called them to do.
